How do you prepare to reopen AND reinvent your business during the Coronavirus era?
As a business owner, information on the re-opening process from the federal government and your local officials is crucial to getting back on track and making sure your employees are safe. With the various phases being implemented as we move along, the key is to be fully prepared to take action when your business is given the green light.
These unprecedented times will require us to become creative and pivot with the new norm. The question for many remains, how do we adapt and reinvent ourselves. Here are a few tips to take into consideration as the first, in a long journey of a wider transformation ahead.
Preparation is key
There are a range of potential scenarios that can evolve in the workplace based on the information we’ve seen in social response to the pandemic. Putting people first is a step in the right direction. Begin by understanding the needs of your employees and clients. Communicate with your workforce transparently to build trust. Revisit policies you’ve implemented within your organization and make adjustments where necessary to cater to your new purpose.
Reinvent workspaces
If a Telework scenario is an option for your workforce, this is a safe and great option to keep on the table, maybe even permanently. If your business functions are based on foot traffic such as; food service, salons, barbershops etc.. then implementing safety measures within the workplace require further actions that begin with sanitation to proper social distancing within confined spaces. You may even want to consider creating multiple shift schedules for your employees, in order to decrease the amount of people within one given space at a time. If an outbreak occurs within your establishment, create a protocol and take the proper steps on reassuring the safety of your employees and clients.
Reboot in phases
This is a great time to reengineer your workplace model and processes. Picture your business as a light dimmer, slowly being lit back up. The success of rebooting your business will be in phases by applying innovative solutions that will secure business in every stage. Begin by taking a birds’ eye view of your business and pinpoint where your initiatives can thrive the most at this time. Reconstitute leadership roles within your organization who have the ability to carry out your business reinvention and beyond.
Back to the future
